Well well well,
After the last meeting between Harbord and us, I got the distinct feeling that our season was over?very obviously I was wrong!
For those of you who were unable to attend today's rugby lesson I have decided to give you a quick summarized, and slightly one sided view of what happened. Having received no less than a fifteen minute lecture from the ref on the rules of rugby, we finally took the field.
Running into a ten point wind we fought hard to gain territorial advantage but gain advantage we did, and with a crashing run from Hugh, crossed their line first. Unfortunately they bounced back almost immediately scoring one of their own. A solid run and hand off from Wes led the way for Hugh to cross the line again. We turned 12-7 up. Now we had the wind in our backs and were beginning to dominate possession and territory. Our forwards were taking a little strain in the set pieces as they were a lot lighter than their opponents, but this didn?t seem to upset them at all, now they focused their attention on taking all the loose. Hienrich Brussow ,(or George Smith if you like) look alike Alex, assisted by Tom.S., Hugh and Eddie spent their afternoon stealing ball and forcing penalties at every opportunity. The engine room of Trent, Brendan, Harry, Tom B. and Kevin were more than a match in all loose play. The backs were receiving good ball from Jamham, Wes kicked a few through to gain ground and other wise let the ball out too the unlikely center combination of Mike and Joe, yes Mike Porter and Joe Millar who usually hang around with forwards? they were fantastic, tackled anything that moved and made some great runs as well, even let the ball go through to the wings occasionally. Jake had a run in with a swinging right arm that almost laid him out? the offender was lucky to be let off with a verbal warning from both the ref and Jake. Chris played another strong game running through and over a number of Harlequins and chasing down one of Wesley's in goal kicks for a five pointer. Harbord scored another try which was quickly nullified by Hugh scoring his third. Jack was the perfect anchor at the back, taking lots of awkward high and rolling ball and returning them with accuracy and interest. Jack converted all but one of the tries? I think?? Hopefully I haven't missed anything ?. The final score was around 38-12 in our favour and was all in all a really entertaining game.
A final word of thanks from the loose forwards and back line to the tight five who so seldom get the glory and so unselfishly work while everyone else plays.
Congratulations again to Hugh on scoring 3 tries. Looking forward to more of the same next week in the final.
